Welcome to the Cumbria Palliative Care website, an online palliative care education and information resource. The website is managed by Hospice at Home West Cumbria and governed by the Cumbria Palliative Care Education Group which is a multi-agency group that is responsible for establishing a comprehensive information and education framework that supports the provision of palliative care in Cumbria.
“After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.” – J.K. ROWLING
This site was originally developed by Janet Ferguson, Eileen Palmer and Tim Sowton, health care professionals in palliative care in North Cumbria, UK but in 2013 we are updating and expanding the website to include relevant information for members of the public, information about all palliative care services including topics such as nausea & vomiting, pain control and palliative bowel care across the whole of Cumbria.
Through this website, we aim to offer information, advice and support in palliative care for both healthcare professionals and members of the public that is tailored to meet their needs. It enhances the knowledge and skills of health professionals caring for palliative care patients and provides the public with useful and up to date information about palliative and end of life care.
We endorse the principals of the Royal College of Nursing and Royal College of General Practitioners End of Life Care Patient Charter and urge all health and social care professionals to promote the Charter in every care setting.
Individual authorship and copyright of the different sections of the site is indicated where appropriate.
We would like to say a special thank you to Apogium, Cumbria NHS Partnership and the University of Cumbria for all their help, expertise and support in the healthcare niche, and to Diane Gainey for her kind permission to use her artwork throughout the website.
